Local Development Highlights:
Pittsburgh's Airport Corridor has seen strong growth over the past decade. The opening of Pittsburgh International Airport's new Landside and Airside Terminals and the
Air Mall within the Airside Terminal Building has fueled much of this development.
The Airport Expressway linking these new facilities with the local highway system and the simple fact that the Western quarter of Allegheny County has so much room for growth and development are added factors.
The Airport Corridor has seen a construction boom in both the office and residential markets, which means people can easily live within a short distance of their work and recreation.
Light industry abounds at the many office and industrial parks that have opened in the eight years since the new airport terminals came online.
To serve this growing population of workers and residents, not to mention the swelling ranks of business people who now come through the Pittsburgh Airport Corridor, retail and hospitality service providers have seen their own accelerated growth.
Practically every major national franchise is represented among the numerous shopping centers, malls and big box retail districts.
Accommodations range from charming motels and motor courts to world famous names, offering everything from single rooms to elegant extended stay suites that include every conceivable amenity.
Restaurants have proliferated and, no matter what your tastes, you can find both the familiar and the exotic offered by chefs and
wait staffs who understand that there is more to life than increasing its pace. From hamburger to filet mignon, from cola to champagne, our region welcomes the gourmand as well as the businessperson and the traveler.
But this growth has not been haphazard or unmindful of the region's agrarian roots.
Care is taken to ensure that natural wetlands and wildlife are preserved. The local communities abound with parkland. For all this development, you don't have to look very hard to see the green of open fields and old-growth forest, no matter where you happen to be in the Pittsburgh Airport Corridor.
